Rewild or Die is a collection of essays written by Urban Scout exploring the philosophy of the emerging rewilding renaissance, in which civilized humans are thought to be "domesticated" through thousands of years of sedentary, agrarian life. This way of life is believed to be the root of all environmental destruction and social injustice. Rewilding is the process of un-doing this domestication, and restoring healthy, biologically diverse communities. Using thoughtful, humorously cynical and at times angry prose, Urban Scout explores how the ideology of civilization clashes with the wild and wild peoples, and how thinking, feeling and most importantly living wild is the only way to reach true sustainability.

Urban Scout's book of Rewild or Die went beyond my expectations and I am so glad I finally got to add it in my library recently. For those who don't have time to read lengthy books - I highly recommend reading Urban Scout's book on Rewilding. He has the amazing capacity to condense thought provoking facts of how modern civilization is destroying our culture in this thin book. Talk about do not be fooled by its cover or its thinness of pages - it's FULL of wisdom.I love his lingo and easy going yet wise writing style - as if he's sitting next to you conversing about the most pressing problems we're facing today - something I can actually digest and yet it was mind blowing because it would take me days to turn over facts and although it were things I already knew --- the way he put it in his own words hit home - hard. I'd cried and had to put the book down & wait a few days before I could continue. He knows his stuff and I want the world to learn what needs to be known. Thankfully, after drying my eyes, turning to the next chapter, suddenly I'd be snorting out loud laughing of some of the craziest experiences he endured. Great balance there.
Learning his own personal struggles helped me to accept myself more and not feel so alone --- it's very difficult to meet other like minded Rewild folks, let alone get reading materials you can peruse how often you need to remind yourself where you're going. His books has to be in every library and every bookstore all over the US!
My favorite excerpt from his book that I vehemently agree with my heart, mind and soul:
"Urban people's lives have no point. We exist as the human waste product of agriculture.
We have no integrated purpose in the context of the real, wild world.
We have no relationship with our land base, except blind exploitation.
We exist only to serve coffee to those in power, to enter data into spreadsheets for those in power,
or operate machinery for those in power. We simply shift wealth around so that we feel like
we have some worth, even though we don't. Though we drown ourselves in culture. none of
it has any meaning beyond its initial consumption. We've made our entire culture disposable.
We've made our lives disposable."

Rewild or Die Urban Scout 9780578032481 Books Reviews
The WORST ReWilding book I’ve ever read! It is an utterly pathetic attempt to cash in on the growing ReWilding scene. The author is clearly more interested in inserting a cultural Marxist narrative and perversely displaying his own White guilt than adding anything new to your primitive skills set.
I got this book from a friend of mine and I'm getting it for another friend who's gotten into rewilding. It's a really unique and interesting read critiquing a culture that is completely unsustainable and totally out of control.
This book isnt for the faint of rewilding heart. It goes to the core of many issues about modern society, and why civilization is it's own destruction. Urban Scout is also funny, witty, and uses his own life experiences to explain his views in a way I related to.
Very thought provoking and engaging—well written!
Urban Scout continues to walk to razors edge with his up-front writing about rewilding and what it means to be a wild human. Scout has put together stories of his own experiences explaining the faults of civilization and empire and the beauty of seeing the world as alive. He uses humor and wit to make the reader look at the causes and consequences of our own domestication and provides ways and means to help the domestic human become more wild. I found many answers to questions I've had about rewilding in this book and I look at the world a little different after reading Rewild or Die. I am now a Hunter-Gatherer Wannabe.
Urban Scout has delved into and explained, with great precision, rewilding (i.e. reverse domestication). He, also, draws from much experience of his own rewilding and delivers the heart and/or mind of this process. I, also, greatly appreciate his incredible sense of humor. There were several times when I laughed so hard I thought I would burst. Thank you for this great work!
